The pond keeper’s scroll
I · The first chapter
The ledger begins.
David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto built the XRP Ledger during 2011 and early 2012. Its beginnings came before the company now called Ripple was formed in September 2012.
II · A little clarity
Three names.
Different things.
XRP is the native digital asset. The XRP Ledger is the network that records it. Ripple is a company that builds products using blockchain technology. A drop is a unit of XRP, rather than a unit of the company.
Ripple USD (RLUSD) is Ripple’s U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin. On the XRP Ledger, it is an issued token, separate from the network’s native XRP asset.
III · The next little discovery
01 / 05A million drops make one.
One XRP contains exactly one million drops. In the ledger’s APIs, XRP amounts are commonly written as whole numbers of drops.
IV · From the record
Follow the source.
Follow the sources for the full story.
A small ripple. An endless tale.
